Ottawa Art Gallery presents a live drawing performance by artist Syrus Marcus Ware

Look for Syrus at Westfest under the OAG Art Tent. Syrus Marcus Ware is a visual, installation, and performance artist based in Toronto. Working at the intersections of queer, disability, racial, and economic justice, he has organized projects, performances, and initiatives across Canada. He is a core member of multiple collectives, including Performance Disability Art Collective and Black Lives Matter—Toronto. The Activist Portrait Series consists of large-scale portraits of activists/revolutionaries/community mobilizers and celebrates activist culture and the many big and little ways in which we choose to create a world where we all get to have self-determination and where we all get to be free. These portraits are an act of reverence, a celebration of life, choice and action(s).

My name is Jacques, and it is my great honour to introduce you to PomponMinoune. Miss Minoune was conceived decades ago. Many years of singing into a hairbrush and perfecting her art promoted her from bouncing on the bed to strutting on stage during a Pride fundraiser in May of 2016. Join me at Westfest 2017 and watch my live, in-audience transformation from male to female representation through makeup, hair, duct tape, and oversized shoes. Come say hello!
